As of July 1st ALL referrals for support services that receive government subsidies are to be made through the MyAgedCare phone or web application process. Ph 1800 200 422. This is for people aged over 65 years or those of aboriginal status over 50. Leon’s Day out by the Seaside

A real mind journey. Leon; kind, smiling, contained. An old fashioned gentleman who had weathered life’s up’s and down’s, found love again and again and liked to be humoured as well as entertained. The day was a regular day in the ‘home’, but not for Leon. His breathe was short and hard and his body was ‘crumpled’ with fatigue even though it was still morning. Getting to know Felicity

My earliest memory is that of sitting on the foot end of a single bed in the company of a very old lady who was snug in bed. My mother told me it would have been my grandmother who lived with our family of 5 children at the time. I would have been around 3 years old back in 1961. Apparently I loved going to her room and being with her. My mum died just over a year ago at the great age of 91. I think of her often and the similarities and differences they shared at the end of their lives. One thing was the same, they both had many family members around them to provide care. ...
